Queridos amigos:
Por fin parece que comenzó el año nuevo, quedaron atrás las fiestas y las grandes comilonas. Es el momento de sentarse y hacer, de verdad, nuestros buenos propósitos para el año nuevo. Yo tengo dos principales, en lo fotográfico: escribir más, y escribir también en inglés. Espero contar con vuestra ayuda en forma de comentarios y enlaces compartidos en las redes. Y un par de sorpresas más...
Hacía ya mucho tiempo (años, quizá) que os debía a todos, incluso a mí mismo, una entrada sobre la Montaña Palentina, esa estrecha franja de unos 100 km en la Cordillera cantábrica, casi coincidente en longitud geográfica con los Picos de Europa, pero más al sur. De hecho, la visión de los picos de Europa, y el mar de nubes que suele cubrir sus valles, es uno de los principales atractivos de sus cumbres...
Pero en esta ocasión no lo hubo. En esta ocasión, el potente anticiclón de las últimas semanas nos dejó unos cielos azules y limpios (que suelen ser un reto para el fotógrafo porque son un aburrimiento) y temperaturas extremadamente frías para el país donde vivimos.
Así que, aprovechando unas vacaciones familiares y navideñas en Valladolid, me escapé a estas montañas, que son además la tierra de mis orígenes. Y hacia las 6 de la madrugada, para cubrir con tiempo las dos horas de coche necesarias, y llegar a tiempo para un buen amanecer. Y a pesar de ello, cuando las luces empezaron a ser interesantes, aún no había encontrado una localización que me gustara. Llegaba el momento de disparar "sobre la marcha" contra el Pico CURAVACAS, uno de los iconos de mi infancia. Luego llegaron las primeras luces sobre las cumbres, y más adelante, cuando el sol comenzó a subir, la luz empezó a "blanquear, a perder interés, de modo que pensé que descansaría un poco. Pero los detalles interesantes estaban por todas partes, incluso con aquella luz tan fuerte.
A mediodía hice una pequeña caminata de un par de horas, por una pista fácil aunque con algo de hielo, hasta la CASCADA DE MAZOBRE, en el valle que transcurre al norte del ESPIGÜETE. Al bajar de allí, la luz alrededor del EMBALSE DE CAMPORREDONDO estaba empezando mejorar de nuevo, y el viento estaba tan en calma que los reflejos eran impresionantes. De modo que no pude dejar de disparar sin apenas salir de la "Carretera de los pantanos". Y cuando comenzó a caer la noche, me volvía loco pensando en la mejor localización, la orientación de las luces, el punto más ventajoso... Me decidí por el nuevo mirador de ALBA DE LOS CARDAÑOS, que sin tener grandes vistas de la montaña, no me decepcionó.
Aunque con el fin de las luces, no se terminó todavía el espectáculo, porque había algo de luna, y el cielo tan despejado invitaba a nuevos intentos, a pesar de que la temperatura ya rondaba los -10ºC...
Era más tarde de las 9, casi tres horas de noche ya, cuando por fin recogí todos los bártulos y emprendí el viaje de vuelta a casa. La tarjeta y el alma llenos de luces, de recuerdos, de emociones y de paz.

The new year is here already, but the holidays are over now. Time to sit and slow down, and think of those New Year's resolutions in a more realistic manner, and go beyond the gym and the diet, ;-). Like I`ve told some of you before, more posting and posting in English are my resolutions relating my presence on the net. And a few more surprises...
It's been a long time since I've owed you a post about the mountains of Palencia, or "Montaña Palentina" in its touristic name. So let me tell you how my one day trip to this area, the one where I was born, went:
I had to drive some 2 hours from Valladolid, where my family lives and where Christmas time was being spent, so 6 am was mi starting time that day. and yet, I reached the area and still didn't have an interesting location, so it was time to shoot "on the spot". Fortunately, mount CURAVACAS, one of the emblemas of the sierra, was on sight already. Then came the first lights on the summits, and then the details and de backlighted subjects. I thought the light would lost interest by noon, so I took a short and easy hike to MAZOBRE WATERFALL, on the north side of mount ESPIGÜETE, the other one landmark of the area.
By the time I was finished with the hike, the light was getting better again, and the reflections on the CAMPORREDONDO RESERVOIR were so interesting...
And then came the sunset, and here I go, searching for the most interesting location where to shoot "the best of the day". I chose the new vista point over ALBA DE LOS CARDAÑOS, and I really think it was a good decision, although no spectacular views of the Sierra.
And it was almost time to go, but there where still some interesting shootings. The moon was shedding some light already, so I wanted to try some of the shots I had taken during the day. And it all took me three hours more, despite the -10ºC we were enduring by then.
So it was later than 9 pm when I packed all my stuff and drove back home. Time enough to fill my card, and my soul, with lights, memories, emotions, and peace.
