FOTOGRAFIANDO LA LUNA LLENA / SHOOTING THE FULL MOON

(Remember: it's in English down there!)

Hace ya un par de semanas que pasó la última, pero tengo que admitir que no me la quito de la cabeza. La luna se ha convertido, poco a poco, en una verdadera obsesión en mi fotografía, y creo que de alguna manera lo transmito, porque se ha convertido también en un tema recurrente en mis cursos, y una preocupación creciente entre mis alumnos. Y tengo que decir que me encanta.
Así que pensé que tal vez sería buena idea compartir (algo de) lo que he aprendido en los últimos tiempos acerca de la fotografía de la luna llena, por si es de utilidad. Veamos hasta dónde logramos llegar...

En primer lugar, hablemos del equipo: al principio, todos queremos tener un gran teleobjetivo, porque sólo con uno de ésos grandes grandes, como los de los estadios, podemos obtener tamaños de luna significativos en nuestra foto. Por suerte, las cámaras semirréflex han acudido en nuestro auxilio en los últimos tiempos, ofreciéndonos unos niveles de zoom, y de calidad de imagen, que desde luego con las reflex son impensables, al menos sin pensar en miles de euros sobre la mesa. Tampoco es para tanto, ¿no? Pues sí, todo esto es cierto, pero no es menos cierto que últimamente, en mi fotografía de paisajes, no dejo de pensar en explorar, en investigar, en diseñar cosas que no estemos acostumbrados a ver en esta vorágine de imágenes que cada día nos cruzan por delante a toda velocidad. Y tengo una idea: ¿y si vamos un paso más allá de las "fotos de la luna", y si trabajamos más el "paisaje con luna"? Esto nos permite soñar con buenas fotos utilizando objetivos más cortos, más baratos, claro. Incluso el gran angular, ¿no?

Bueno, veremos lo que obtenemos de ahí, pero entonces, ahora, tenemos que pasar a hablar un poco de técnica. Porque, sea grande o pequeña, la luna de nuestras fotos será el elemento principal, ¿no? y si es así, EN LA EXPOSICIÓN DE LA LUNA NO PODEMOS FALLAR. Así que, gracias a la pantalla de nuestra cámara, podemos (y debemos) asegurarnos de que la exposición es la correcta. Para mí, en una exposición correcta de la luna, se ven las manchas, al menos en dos tonos de color diferentes. Y sin duda, el gran problema que nos encontramos, sobre todo disparando en modos automáticos de medir la luz, será que la luna "se nos quema". Así que sed cuidadosos, bajad la exposición. Dependiendo de varios factores (el tamaño de la luna, la hora del día, las nubes, y algunos más) puede que sea necesario subexponer hasta 5 puntos de diafragma. Mis dos consejos son:

• Uno, utiliza el modo manual de medición de la luz, y comienza con una combinación que más o menos sería válida para fotografiar de día. Sí, ya sé que es de noche, pero la luna es UN OBJETO ILUMINADO POR LA LUZ DEL SOL;
• y Dos, comprueba siempre que puedas cómo ha quedado el disparo, y corrige la exposición hasta que las manchas se vean correctamente.

En tercer lugar, es necesario que conozcamos el comportamiento de la luna en el cielo. Es decir, cuándo sale, y por donde. Como pista general, es muy fácil recordar que LA LUNA LLENA SIEMPRE SALE EN EL MOMENTO QUE SE PONE EL SOL, Y SIEMPRE SALE POR EL LADO CONTRARIO A ÉSTE, es decir, a 180º en el horizonte, hacia el este. El día anterior, la luna sale aproximadamente una hora antes, y el día siguiente, aproximadamente una hora después. Pero éste, y sólo éste, es el momento clave para fotografiar la luna llena, porque ocurren a la vez dos cosas muy interesantes:

• Primero, que la luna está cerca del horizonte, lo que nos permite incluirla en nuestras fotos de paisajes sin dejar grandes espacios vacíos de cielo.
• Y segundo, que hay luz en nuestro paisaje, proveniente del sol que acaba de ponerse o tal vez todavía no lo ha hecho. 

Ninguna de estas circunstancias será tan perfecta el día anterior o el día siguiente, de modo que sólo disponemos de un día perfecto cada mes, para cada foto concreta que queramos hacer.

Bueno, todavía nos queda un plan B, pero debemos tener pensada otra localización, hacia el lado contrario del horizonte: MAÑANA, AL AMANECER, LA LUNA VOLVERÁ A ESTAR EN CIRCUNSTANCIAS PARECIDAS, frente al sol, y cerca del horizonte, sólo que estará en el oeste.

Siguiente, nos queda considerar los factores más concretos de la foto que queremos hacer: qué tiempo hará, si estará suficientemente despejado, desde dónde haremos la foto, qué altura necesitamos en el cielo, cuál es la composición que tenemos pensada (aunque tal vez luego haya muchas cosas que nos cambien los planes, claro...). Por cierto, con muchos de estos factores nos ayudan varias aplicaciones para el móvil, de las que sólo comentaré las que uso, que son las que conozco (son para iPhone, por favor, investigad su existencia o sus alternativas para android u otros sistemas, y podéis dejarlas en los comentarios):

• Eltiempo.es. Es evidente para qué sirve.
• Sun Moon: una aplicación muy sencilla que te localiza y te dice a qué hora saldrá y se pondrá la luna y el sol.
• Best photo times: te coloca en un lugar del mapa y te dibuja un círculo, y te dice a qué hora y en qué ángulo sale y se pone el sol y la luna. A mí me gusta más que el famoso The Photographer's Ephemeris, y creo que es más barata. Lo único es que de momento, no ha arrancado en mi iPad pro...
• También ayuda mirar al cielo y comprobar tu horario de trabajo, por la mañana y por la tarde, ;-)

Y por último, nos queda estudiar qué postprocesado digital le daremos nuestra foto, para que la luna luzca en todo su esplendor. Pero eso lo discutiremos en otro momento, creo yo. Y también para otro momento, fotografiaremos la luna... cuando no esté llena. ¡Veréis como también resulta muy interesante!

It's been a couple weeks since the last one, but dear friends, I have to admit it, I can't take it off my head. The moon has turned, little by little, into a really bad photographic obsession, an obsession that I seem to be transmitting my students, since they keep on talking and talking during our courses. And, you know what? I love it!
So I thought it would be a good idea to share (a part of my) knowledge, learnt over the last times. Let´s see...

First of all, then, let's talk about gear: in the beginning, everyone wants to have a big tele, because only with those really big ones, like the ones at the stadiums, can we achieve big moons in our shots. Luckily, bridge cameras have come to our rescue to give us affordable long reaches, a good enough solution for many. But also, in my own style of photography, I've started to feel less like "photos of the moon" and more like "landscapes including the moon", and this is allowing me to use shorter lenses and even, why not, wide angle lenses!

Now we need to move on to talking about technique. Because, big or small, the moon has to be an important element in our pictures and WE CAN'T MISS THE RIGHT EXPOSURE. So, thanks to our camera's screen, we need to make sure that the exposure is right. For me, the right one is the one that allows to see the shapes and different nuances on the moon's surface. Just a white disk is not enough, I mean. And the big problem, usually, is just the moon is getting burned. So we need to lower the exposure combination (either aperture or speed). Depending on a few factors, we might need to decrease 5 stops or more. Here go my two pieces of advice:

• One, set you camera to manual exposure mode (M), and start with a combination that would work for exposing something on earth. Yes, I know it's dark, it's night, but remember this: THE MOON IS AN OBJECT ILLUMINATED BY THE SUN;
• And two, always check the shot, and correct the exposure if needed.

In the third place, we will need to understand the moon's behavior in the sky. I mean, when it rises and sets, and where it does. As a starting point tip, THE FULL MOON ALWAYS RISES OPPOSITE TO THE SUNSET, AT THE VERY SAME TIME OF THE SUNSET, so about 180 degrees from the sunset, more or less to the east. The day before, the moon rises about one hour before, and the following day, about one hour later. But this day, and only this day, is key, because only this day, these two interesting things happen together:

• The moon is low above the horizon, what is good to include it in our compositions, and
• There is light left in the landscape, coming from the sun still setting or just set.

None of these circumstances will be as perfect the previous or the following day, although we still have a B plan: TOMORROW MORNING, AT DAWN, THE MOON WILL BE IN A SIMILAR SCENARIO, ONLY TOWARDS THE WEST, 180 degrees from the rising sun.

Next, we want to consider the concrete factor relating the photo we want: the weather forecast, the exact location from where we plan to shoot, what altitude we need of the moon in the sky, what composition we have in mind... And I use the help of some mobile phone apps (I know them for IOS, please leave your comments if you know and/or use others for android or other systems):

• Eltiempo.es: Spanish weather forecast. Please replace it by the local forecast app in your country, ;-).
• Sun Moon: just tells you sun and moon rise and set, and the moon phase, in your location, today and the following dates.
• Best Photo Times: It just places you somewhere in the map, and draws a circle, and tells you where and when the sun and the moon are rising and setting at a given date. I actually like this app more than the famous TPE (or The Photographer's Ephemeris), and it's a bit cheaper, only it's currently not working on my iPad Pro...
• Finally, it also helps to double check your agenda, and see if you will be free tonight or tomorrow morning, ;-)

And finally, we still have to talk about post processing for the moon to shine in our picture, but this will have to be left for another day. As well as talking about the moon... when it's not full, very interesting too, you will see!

SUPERVIVENCIA EN FAMILIA / SURVIVING IN FAMILY

Hace unos días tuve el privilegio de ser seleccionado para participar en la primera edición de "Supervivientes Navalmoral", una iniciativa de los Servicios Sociales de mi Ayuntamiento, que organizó O2 Turismo y Medio Ambiente, una emergente, y muy interesante, empresa local de eventos y servicios. La aventura implicó a 14 parejas formadas por un padre, o madre más un hijo, o hija, que debían recorrer una larga distancia en la Naturaleza, compitiendo a veces, pero más bien cooperando casi siempre, para encontrar nuestra comida, nuestra agua, nuestro lugar de acampada, conservar nuestro fuego... El segundo privilegio que se me fue concedido fue llevar mi cámara, el único aparato electrónico que fue permitido en toda la expedición. A few days ago I had the privilege to take part in the first edition of "Survival Navalmoral", an initiative coming from the Social Services of the town where I live, and organized by O2 Turismo y Medio Ambiente, and emerging, and VERY interesting local event organization company. The adventure had 14 family pairs of father/mother plus son/daughter that had to compete at times, and cooperate most of the occasions, for their food, water, or fire...
The second privilege I was granted was taking my camera, the only electronic divide allowed during the long weekend in the wild. PINTANDO CON LUZ / EXPLORING LIGHT PAINTING

Este pequeño veranillo del membrillo nos ofrece algunas ideas y algunas posibilidades interesantes de vez en cuando. La otra tarde tuve un rato libre, y salí un poco al campo. sabía que no sería mucho tiempo, así que apenas conduje un par de kilómetros y pronto encontré una dehesa que me pareció interesante. El atardecer parecía insulso y casi lluviosos, pero nunca se sabe... En apenas un par de minutos, el cielo se tiró de color y durante menos de diez minutos, nos regaló las mejores luces del día, de la semana.
Luego, ya casi de noche, encontré un bello alcornoque, maduro, aislado y recién descorchado. Me parecieron ingredientes suficientes para experimentar un poco con la linterna. No tengo muchos conocimientos, así que simplemente me limité a iluminar frontalmente al principio, y luego probé también desde detrás del tronco, procurando que la fuente de luz quedara siempre protegida por el tronco. Creo que en todo caso, la clave de estas fotos es que el cielo no está todavía negro, y quedan unos preciosos vestigios de luz rosada que evitan el negro de una noche cerrada.
Las fotos están disparadas en modo Bulb, con disparador de cable, durante  un par de minutos. En ese tiempo, no paré de mover la linterna ni de moverme yo alrededor del árbol, siempre con mucho cuidado de "no salir en la foto".
Fue un primer contacto con una técnica que me apasiona, y espero parir nuevas ideas este invierno. En mi cabeza, desde luego, ya bullen, ya...

This short "indian summer" we are having lately is presenting us with some interesting possibilities now that fall is already here in the Northern Hemisphere. So I went out the other day, with not so much time to spend, and just drove a couple kms, in the hope I would find something interesting to shoot. There seemed not to be a sunset that day (it was almost raining!), but in just a few seconds the sun gave me the prettiest lights of the whole week, and there I was, lucky of me.
And then , almost night, I found a beautiful cork tree, mature, isolated, freshly peeled. I thought it would be enough for a nice photo evening and some light painting exploration. I started with some front painting, and then I tried some back lighting, always making sure I didn't appear on the shot. In both cases, the real key is to shoot before complete dark, so that t the sky still has some bluish and purplish lights to offer, instead of the black of a dark night.
I shot in Bulb mode, for some two minutes or so, and used that time to move around my lamp, and move around myself, always caring my position.
Well, it'a a first contact with that so appealing technique, and I certainly hope not the last one.

DE NUEVO EN RUTA / ON THE BLOG AGAIN

Permitidme, queridos amigos, que me aproveche del talento del gran Willie Nelson, para poner título a esta entrada que ya tardaba meses y meses en llegar. Por medio ha pasado toda una primavera, todo un verano, con alguna que otra aventura en el camino (tal vez algún día se vayan desgranando por aquí...), pero lo cierto es que no he tenido muchas ocasiones, (ni muchas ganas tampoco, seamos honestos) de publicar en este tiempo. Ahora va llegando el otoño, y a veces una tarde lluviosa (o como la de hoy, escandalosamente lluviosa) pueden poner en marcha nuestros ánimos, o nuestras fantasías, nuestras ganas de soñar,  de recordar...
En fin, que hace unos días, la semana pasada, empezamos la segunda temporada de cursos de fotografía en la UNIVERSIDAD POPULAR de NAVALMORAL DE LA MATA. La acogida ha sido excelente, con un aula llena a reventar y al parecer, un buen puñado de gente que tendrá que esperar una nueva ocasión. Espero, mientras, no decepcionar a nadie.
Y en fin, las ilustraciones del día las pone el divertido "fotoencuentro" que mantuvimos el viernes pasado, precisamente con varios ex alumnos de los cursos anteriores. La tarde comenzaba como un intento de repetir, en el PARQUE NACIONAL DE MONFRAGÜE,  una de mis fotos favoritas del año pasado, la de los ciervos bajo la luna. Y bueno, no lo logramos, pero la tarde se convirtió en la noche, hacía bueno, se puso la luna, salieron las estrellas... Todos esperamos que vengan más momentos así. Disfrutad.

Excuse me, dear friends, if I use the great Willie Nelson's talent to give title to my post today, after a few months without news from this side. The whole of the spring, and the whole of the summer, and still more, and a few adventures on the way, but the truth is, I haven't had much time, and let's be honest, I haven't felt like writing all this time. So now that fall is here, rainy afternoons like today can help motivating our feelings, make us feel like dreaming, or just remembering...
Well, let me just tell you how we started with our photography workshops in NAVALMORAL DE LA MATA, SPAIN, for the second season in a row. And I have to say I'm really impressed, overwhelmed by so many people wanting to come, and even a few that will have to wait until the next time. Thank you and I hope not to deceive anyone.
And finally, some photos. Yes, we went out last night, with a bunch of friends coming from last season's workshops, and the idea was to shoot the deer against the moon, like last year, in MONFRAGÜE NATIONAL PARK, EXTREMADURA, SPAIN. Not lucky, but we won't say the afternoon was boring. Some wildlife, landscapes, a visit for dinner, the stars all above us... In the hope that more moments like this will come. In the meantime, my friends, enjoy.

LA HISTORIA DETRÁS / THE STORY BEHIND (4)

Bosque otoñal. Segovia, España.

Fue una desilusión descubrir un fantástico bosque de rivera en los alrededores de Segovia y comprobar que las hojas habían caído de los árboles hacía una o dos semanas. Hasta que, adentrándome en el bosque, comprendí que ahora toda la emoción del otoño estaba en el suelo, y fue un par de sesiones que no tenían fin, porque la luz suave del cielo nublado y el interior del bosque permiten disparar a cualquier hora del día. Enseguida me interesaron el río y la alfombra de otoño, así que busqué una composición que los incluyera a ambos. Me gustó esta foto porque, gracias a una composición simétrica, transmite bastante bien la tranquilidad del lugar y del momento. Utilicé la velocidad más lenta que pude, para lograr el efecto seda en el agua del arroyo, y de regalo me llevé la profundidad de campo máxima de una apertura tan cerrada.
En el proceso posterior decidí subexponer la decisión inicial de la cámara, para dar más ambiente y saturación a la escena, y por supuesto aumenté la saturación y enfoque de las hojas.

Fall forest. Segovia, Spain.

It was a big disappointment when I discovered this fantastic deciduous forest near Segovia, only to find out the last leaves had just fallen down a week ago. Only until I entered the forest and understood that now, all the excitement was on the ground, and it was a pair of neverending sessions, since the soft light of the overcast day and the forest allowed for all day shooting. I was immediately interested by the river and the autumnal blanket, and tried to include both in a composition. I finally loved this one, because that symmetry helps transmit the feeling of calm and peace of the place and the moment. I set the lowest possible speed to give the water a silky effect, and as a bonus, I gained the depth of view that only such a closed aperture can yield.

I decided to underexpose a bit in postprocessing, thus improving the general athmosphere and saturation, and of course improved as much as I could saturation and sharpnes in the leaves area.

LA HISTORIA DETRÁS / THE STORY BEHIND (3)

Dejadme que os invite a leer la historia detrás de esta fotografía, sin duda una de las más emocionantes que he disparado en 2014:

Let me invite you to read the story behind this photograph, undoubtedly one of the most exciting I've shot in 2014:

Otoño en el Parque Nacional de Monfragüe. Cáceres, España.

No me lo podía creer. Sólo estaba buscando una silueta interesante de monte mediterraneo, que me ayudase a suavizar la desilusión de ver que la luna estaba cayendo y no había logrado ninguna toma interesante. Aparqué en un mirador del parque, frente a la ladera donde la luna ya se ponía a toda velocidad, y ajusté mis parámetros para garantizar una exposición correcta de la luna. Y cuando apunté mi teleobjetivo, creí que el corazón se me saldría del pecho al ver la silueta de las ciervas pastando, tranquilamente, en el lugar exacto para una foto perfecta. Las primeras fotos salieron movidas, porque esperaba hacer una toma de varios segundos con el trípode, pero afortunadamente, los animales estaban tranquilos y me dieron la oportunidad de modificar los parámetros. Luego, inlcuso, llegaría el macho a posar en el mismo hueco, aunque ninguna toma me gusta tanto como ésta. Recogí y me fui corriendo a descargar mi tarjeta.
La imagen es tan simple, tan sólo tres colores planos, que sólo tuve que aumentar ligeramente la saturación, y subir los negros para eliminar todo posible detalle de las siluetas.

Fall in Monfragüe National Park. Cáceres, Spain.

I could not believe it. I simply was looking for a spot from where I could silhouette the mediterranean forest against the quickly setting moon, before go home without any interesting shot that day. I parked my car in the parking lot and set up my tripod and camera, facing the slope where the moon almost touched the treetops. I adjusted my parameters to correctly expose for the moon, but when i looked through the lens, only then I could see the deers, calmly grazing in the exact right place for the perfect shot. The first photos came out blurred, since I had planned for a several seconds exposition, but fortunately, nothing disturbed the animals and they gave me a few more minutes. Later came (and posed) the male, but this one is my favorite. It was time to pack my gear and rush home to put card to computer.
The image is so simple, with only three flat colors in it, that all I had to do in postprocessing was increase saturation and lower the blacks to completely remove any detail from the silhouettes.

Cumbre del Curavacas. Palencia, España.

La noche que pasé vivaqueando en la cumbre del Curavacas fue sin duda la más emocionante del año desde el punto de vista fotográfico, y también vital. Subí equipado para no pasar el mismo frío que un par de noches antes en otra montaña cercana, pero el tiempo estuvo muy estable toda la noche, permitiéndome tomar grandes imágenes del atardecer y el amanecer. Llegué a la cima con tiempo suficiente de descubrir el impresionante mar de nubes sobre los valles cantábricos al norte de la Montaña Palentina. La cruz con las banderas de oración fue un espectacular primer plano cargado de simbolismos que hacían a la imagen más montañera. Coloqué la cámara en el trípode para una velocidad lenta, y compuse tratando de incluir muchos elementos en la imagen: la cruz, el buzón y la campana de la cumbreen primer plano, la mole del Espigüete a la izquierda, el mar de nubes a la derecha, la puesta de sol... El color de la luz hizo el momento perfecto.
En el proceso posterior reduje el contraste del contraluz mediante los deslizadores de altas luces y sombras, y naturalmente enriquecí la saturación.


Summit of mount Curavacas. Palencia, Spain.

The night I spent bivouacking on top of mount Curavacas was definitely the nmost exciting of the year, from a photographic, and also vital, point of view. I went up equipped against the cold I had had a couple nights before in a neighboring mountain, but the wheather was very stable all night long, and I had great opportunuties of sunset and sunrise shots. I summited with plenty of time to admire the awesome landscape and the clouds covering the northern side of the sierra. The cross with the praying flags around gave me the perfect foreground, full of mountaineering symbolism. I set the camera on the tripod, and adjusted for a long exposure, and I tried to include all the elements in the image: The cross, the mailbox, the bell, the bulk of mount Espigüete to the left, the cloud cover to the right, the sunset... The color of the light made for the perfect moment.
In posprocessing, I reduced the general contrast with the highlights and shadows sliders, and of course I increased saturation.

GROENLANDIA 2013 (y 10!)

Queridos amigos:

Ya hemos llegado, un año más al final del camino. Toca hacer balance y empezar a madurar nuevos proyectos. Los míos hierven en mi cabeza ansiosos por salir. Luego, el tiempo dirá...

También es el momento de felicitaciones para todos, y en mi caso también agradecimientos a todos, por vuestro seguimiento y vuestro apoyo durante estas últimas semanas, que de verdad me han animado a seguir manteniendo vivo este proyecto literario-fotográfico que ya va para los 6 años.

Y como lo prometido es deuda, aquí está mi regalo de Navidad, espero que os guste: las fotos que siguen son una pequeña selección de elegidas, no me atrevo a decir mis favoritas, porque el esfuerzo de descartar ha sido muy doloroso. Todas las imágenes son archivos  listos para descargar y suficientes como fondo de escritorio. Y además, os regalo una de ellas, la que elijáis, como archivo de alta resolución listo para imprimir o enviar al laboratorio (tamaños hasta 50x75). One more year has come to its end. Time to look back for a while, and then, again, look forward to all new projects. Mine are already overwhelming me, although only time will tell...

Also I want to send you all my best wishes for this new year, and my gratitude for all your support over these last weeks. That really is pushing me to keep on posting!

GROENLANDIA (9): EL FINAL DEL VIAJE

Parece que ni yo mismo quería escribir este título. Han sido tantas las vivencias que han aflorado a mi mente (¡y mi corazón!) durante estas últimas semanas, que relamen yo también me he quedado enganchado con este viaje. Muchas gracias a todos por vuestro apoyo, por vuestras visitas y comentarios. Realmente me estáis motivando a seguir "blogueando", así que os deberíais ir preparando...
Sólo unas horas nos quedaban en Qeqertarsuaq, después de aquella noche en que las auroras no quisieron aparecer. La dediqué a visitar la escuela, el lugar de trabajo de Néjanguaq, la esposa de Ove. Ella trabaja allí como maestra de educación especial, pero en la escuela tiene todos los niveles de primaria y secundaria, hasta los aproximadamente 14 años, momento en que los chicos se van al Gymnasium (como la High School americana, en España sería un instituto sólo para Bachillerato), en Nuuk. Me encantó el ambiente tan íntimo, los alumnos tenían mucha movilidad, andaban por los pasillos, pero no castigados, sino haciendo trabajos autónomos mientras sus compañeros estaban en el aula haciendo otras cosas. Y sin duda, la decoración de las paredes, espectacular. Para ellos también mi visita era una fiesta, un preludio de las vacaciones de primavera que estaban a punto de llegar. Así que hubo tiempo también para posar ante la cámara...

Y ya no nos quedaba mucho más tiempo en aquel pequeño mundo tan lejano, tan remoto, tan acogedor, tan frío por fuera y tan cálido por dentro, en las distancias cortas. Ahora debemos despedirnos y emprender de nuevo el viaje de una hora en helicóptero:

Y a nuestra llegada a Ilulissat, todo nos parece como la gran ciudad: hay calles, gente, hoteles, tiendas... Groenlandia sigue presente, pero ya hemos dejado atrás esa sensación de algo único que nos ha acompañado durante nuestros días en Qeqertarsuaq. Decidimos darnos un penúltimo homenaje cenando en un entrañable restaurante con espectaculares vistas a la bahía. La actividad turística y pesquera ya ha comenzado, así que desde la ventana disfrutamos del lento atardecer y del tráfico portuario, mientras esperamos nuestros platos de, por supuesto, gastronomía local.

Y claro que no vamos a dejar pasar nuestra última noche sin un último intento de fotografíar la aurora boreal, aunque pronto abandonaremos el intento. Hoy hace mucho frío, unos 28 ºC bajo cero, y estamos cansados, como empezando a encajar la fatiga acumulada. Aún así, pondremos el despertador a las 5:30, y si nos quedan energías, nos levantamos al amanecer, ¿vale?
Y el amanecer, como para despedirnos con buen sabor de boca, nos regala algunas de las mejores imágenes del viaje. Primero, lo que vemos, desde la ventana del apartamento, sólo con salir al balcón:

Y después, la caminata de rigor, que ya vamos conociendo, y el premio por tanto frío como vamos a pasar esta última mañana:

...Antes de volver definitivamente al albergue, ahora sí, para ir recogiendo todas nuestras cosas, despacio, muy despacio, como con parsimonia, como no queriendo terminar este que sin duda está siendo el viaje de nuestras vidas. Aunque aún una pequeña sorpresa nos estará esperando (¡Esto parece inagotable como fuente de sobresaltos!): a punto de aterrizar en Islandia, nos sorprende una vez más nuestra querida Aurora, desde el avión, y las casi dos horas que transcurren entre la segunda de estas fotos y la tercera se me hacen eternas. No puedo dejar de verla, de disfrutarla, pero no puedo fotografiarla porque estoy esperando por el aterrizaje, por el equipaje, por el transporte al albergue, por la caminata... Por fin, cuando llegamos a un lugar interesante, ya sólo queda un pequeño atisbo. Es nuestra despedida del gran norte. Ahora sí. Aunque sabemos bien que no es más que un "hasta luego..."

En fin, queridos, una vez repuesto y secas de nuevo mis lagrimillas, debo cerrar esta serie, aunque en estas fechas tan señaladas, en que todos nos hacemos tantos regalos. Os tengo preparados unos pocos. Creo que llegarán a tiempo para Navidad, pero no debéis dejar de estar muuuuy atentos a los próximos días (Ya sabéis, el viejo truco para tratar de engancharos unos días más)...
