MEMORIAL MARIA LUISA / MML PHOTO CONTEST

El Memorial María Luisa se ha convertido, poco a poco, en un referente de la fotografía de montaña, aventura y naturaleza no sólo a nivel español, sino mundial, con centenares de fotógrafos de decenas de países. Así que, de nuevo, es un honor para mí alcanzar las nominaciones (algo así como las "semifinales" en alguna de las categorías. Os dejo la foto que ha merecido el premio en esta ocasión, en la categoría "Biodiversidad: animales en su entorno", y también un enlace al vídeo-presentación que contiene todas las imágenes ganadoras. Creo que estaréis conmigo en que la calidad de los trabajos es increíble, y lo más valioso, en estos tiempos que corren: ¡todavía es sorprendente!!!

Memorial María Luisa, or MML Photo Contest, has become, little by little, one of the reference competitions in mountain, adventure, nature and wildlife photography, not only at a Spanish level, but definitely at the highest international level (you only have to watch this video to find it out for yourselves). That's why it's an honor for me to reach the nominations (something like the "semifinals"), with this photo I show off today, in the "Biodiversity" category. SALAMANCA, PATRIMONIO MUNDIAL / SALAMANCA, WORLD HERITAGE

Los sitios Patrimonio de la Humanidad son casi siempre lugares emocionantes donde la belleza natural, la historia, la cultura o alguna combinación de todas ellas es capaz de llegarnos al alma. Y parece que tenemos tendencia a olvidarnos de esta emoción, especialmente cuando estos lugares no nos resultan remotos... En España, vivo a dos horas de varios de estos lugares, que poco a poco espero ir visitando y compartiendo en este espacio, porque realmente lo merecen, y compartirlos es casi una obligación en estos tiempos en que la cultura se vende tan cara...

Por lo demás, las fotos nacieron un fin de semana de invierno, en una visita familiar a la ciudad, y disfrutando de algunas de mis estrategias favoritas de conciliación de la vida fotográfica y familiar: la primera, MADRUGAR, disfrutar de la mejor luz del día, y los momentos en que la ciudad está más tranquila (aunque Salamanca, como Nueva York, parece que tampoco duerme mucho...); la segunda, aprovechar los lentos paseos por el centro de las ciudades para reducir la velocidad de mi vida, tranquilizarme un poco y OBSERVAR LOS DETALLES; y la tercera, luchar contra el cansancio acumulado a lo largo del día, y QUEDARME UN RATITO MÁS, sólo un ratito, cuando todos ya se retiran...

World Heritage Sites are almost always very exciting places where Nature, history, culture or any combination of all is able to reach our soul. And we kind of tend to forget this emotion especially when these places are not remote, far from home... In Spain, I'm lucky enough to live within 2 hours from a few of these sites, that I hope to visit and share in this modest space, just because I'm convinced they deserve it, and share them is almost an obligation in these so hard times for culture...

The following images where born during a family visit to the city, using and enjoying some of my favorite strategies to help balance my photo and family life: one is GET UP EARLY, enjoy the best light of the day, and the moments when the city is quieter (although this University Salamanca, like New York, doesn't seem to sleep much...); another one is to take advantage of those slow walks downtown, and PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILS; and the last one today, fight tiredness of the day and STAY A LITTLE BIT LONGER, just a little bit, when everyone else is already gone to bed...
