HACE TIEMPO HUBO UN ECLIPSE... / AN ECLIPSE A WHILE AGO...

It's a real pity we are always in such a hurry (and complaining all the time, by the way!), but the truth is I'm just remembering that beautiful fall night, as far as late September, when we could enjoy the total lunar eclipse, remember? It caught me in Castille, a bit far from my home town, but the night was crispy and mild, the sky was so clean, and I had the chance to spend the whole night out. In Spain the complete proccess lasted from 2 am to 7 am, and there I was, capturing every minute with a shot, creating footage for a time lapse video I will publish in, say, a hundred years or less, ;-)
I set mi camera to shoot every minute, and used a 70-200 lens, what had me set my alarm every 20-30 minutes, to change the camera's position, too. Alright, now what? I knew the following day, all social media would be flooded with Photoshoped 12-15 images compositions showing all phases of the process above a nice landscape. What else could we do if we want to show that event?
So here was my "original" idea for that night: I has to shoot a last landscape, before the moon set, with a real landscape from that place, and I would use that one for my final composition. And I tried to find a nice setup of the medieval castle of "La Mota", in MEDINA DEL CAMPO, VALLADOLID, SPAIN. Only I couldn't find it, and the small, modest hamlet of RODILANA, just a few miles away from there, gave me the final shot.
And yes, the whole sequence is saved somewhere in my hard drive, waiting for my brain to come up with a truly unique idea. For the moment, this is what I share with you today. Enjoy!

LA HISTORIA DETRÁS / THE STORY BEHIND (6)

Queridos amigos:

Dear friends,
As Christmas are coming, I just thought you might be short of giving ideas this season, so let me remember you about the nice photobook I published via BLURB last february. It wants to be a tea table book (soft cover), but also educate in the techniques that work for me in my photography, and why not, share the moments lived while shooting that photographs. Under the tab "libros", on top of this page, you can access several fragments, and also you can preview the book by linking to it from the right side bar.

And let me share, as a new appetizer, a new photograph, and the story behind it (Thank you, Jesús and Montaña!).
And remember: Commenting and sharing is always welcome!

Photo course. Navalmoral, Cáceres, Spain.

We were in the middle of a practical session in our trimestral course. We were working several parameters in front of an artificially iluminated fountain, when it started sprinkling slightly. Montaña kept on working with one hand, while holding her umbrella with the other, and she made an interesting image, with an interesting urban and neutral background. Then came Jesús to check her work, and I knew the photo was a good one. Mixed lighting was great, with some cold light from the street behind my subjects, and some warmer light coming from the fountain in front. This gives them more importance.
I used my tripod, and raised the ISO all the way to the maximum usable, and shot in burst mode to take as many as possible, since I knew the speed was still very slow. Luckily, at least this one came out sharp.
I left the photo almost untouched in postprocessing, didn't even feel like straightening the lines behind. Just applied a strong noise reduction in Lightroom, and let it go.

SUPERVIVENCIA EN FAMILIA / SURVIVING IN FAMILY

¡Y disfrutad!

A few days ago I had the privilege to take part in the first edition of "Survival Navalmoral", an initiative coming from the Social Services of the town where I live, and organized by O2 Turismo y Medio Ambiente, and emerging, and VERY interesting local event organization company. The adventure had 14 family pairs of father/mother plus son/daughter that had to compete at times, and cooperate most of the occasions, for their food, water, or fire...
The second privilege I was granted was taking my camera, the only electronic divide allowed during the long weekend in the wild. These are my favorite shots, but you can take a look at the rest of them, and download them if you wish (for personal use only, please!) to the other side of this link to Picasa: https://goo.gl/photos/8GQFAoGcbV2ckRRC6. But please, don't forget to share the info! Enjoy!

It was very long time ago that I fell in love with Paris, me too. That's why I'm hurt today, like (almost) everybody else. I'm with you, Paris, today and forever.

¡No olvidéis compartir!

This short "indian summer" we are having lately is presenting us with some interesting possibilities now that fall is already here in the Northern Hemisphere. So I went out the other day, with not so much time to spend, and just drove a couple kms, in the hope I would find something interesting to shoot. There seemed not to be a sunset that day (it was almost raining!), but in just a few seconds the sun gave me the prettiest lights of the whole week, and there I was, lucky of me.
And then , almost night, I found a beautiful cork tree, mature, isolated, freshly peeled. I thought it would be enough for a nice photo evening and some light painting exploration. I started with some front painting, and then I tried some back lighting, always making sure I didn't appear on the shot. In both cases, the real key is to shoot before complete dark, so that t the sky still has some bluish and purplish lights to offer, instead of the black of a dark night.
I shot in Bulb mode, for some two minutes or so, and used that time to move around my lamp, and move around myself, always caring my position.
Well, it'a a first contact with that so appealing technique, and I certainly hope not the last one.
For the moment, I hope you like them. And don't forget to share!

DE NUEVO EN RUTA / ON THE BLOG AGAIN

Espero, mientras, no decepcionar a nadie.
Disfrutad.

Excuse me, dear friends, if I use the great Willie Nelson's talent to give title to my post today, after a few months without news from this side. The whole of the spring, and the whole of the summer, and still more, and a few adventures on the way, but the truth is, I haven't had much time, and let's be honest, I haven't felt like writing all this time. So now that fall is here, rainy afternoons like today can help motivating our feelings, make us feel like dreaming, or just remembering...
Well, let me just tell you how we started with our photography workshops in NAVALMORAL DE LA MATA, SPAIN, for the second season in a row. And I have to say I'm really impressed, overwhelmed by so many people wanting to come, and even a few that will have to wait until the next time. Thank you and I hope not to deceive anyone.
And finally, some photos. Yes, we went out last night, with a bunch of friends coming from last season's workshops, and the idea was to shoot the deer against the moon, like last year, in MONFRAGÜE NATIONAL PARK, EXTREMADURA, SPAIN. Not lucky, but we won't say the afternoon was boring. Some wildlife, landscapes, a visit for dinner, the stars all above us... In the hope that more moments like this will come. In the meantime, my friends, enjoy.

DESAFÍO VIAJERO 2015 CON RAFARUIZFOTO / 2015 TRAVEL CHALLENGE WITH RAFARUIZFOTO

Queridos amigos:
Normal, ¿no?

Dear friends,
The last days have been quite hectic, paring my next project that starts as early as today. I haven't even had the chance to enjoy that little gift that the Oasis contest sent to me at the beginning of the week. But now, I'm into my 2015 personal photo trip, and I want to share with you my very special collaborator, Silvia Ruiz's, idea", and this is it: CAN YOU GUYS GUESS WHERE I'M TRAVELLING THIS YEAR? My plan is to give you some hints here and there via my Facebook profile at www.facebook.com/rafaruizfoto, or alternatively you can leave your comments to this blog post. Well, some of my close friends know already about this trip, so I need to ask you to not participate, or do it without much noise, or just make some mistakes on purpose. Please remember this is just a game, ok? And the prize? The prize for all the winners is a hi res digital file, ready to print in big size, and the possibility to have your name included (or the person you want) somewhere in the text of the next Blurb photo book, that will surely be sent to print sometime in spring/summer.
Obviously, I need to ask that you don't participate in an anonymous way.
No need to say, I suppose, that the main goal of the trip is to take (and hopefully make) some good pictures, so I also promise I'll be sharing my work upon my return.
And finally, my dear friends, all I have left to say is:"if you find this game fun, just go ahead and share!"

(Note: these first images are for illustration purposes only)

MENCIÓN DE HONOR EN OASIS PHOTO CONTEST / HONORABLE MENTION AT OASIS PHOTO CONTEST

Queridos amigos:

Dear friends,
You probably remember a few weeks ago, when I posted one of my photos, selected to take part in the catalog at italian Oasis Photo Contest. Well, today I've just learned that it has won an honorable mention, so let me share the photo with you again, together with my joy for the prize. If I were you, I'd definitely visit the gallery, here!

INVIERNO EN LA MONTAÑA PALENTINA / WINTER IN PALENCIA

Queridos amigos:
Todavía no había comenzado a nevar...

Dear friends,
Just a little post from the brand New Year's very first day. It was a perfect skiing day, with beautiful weather and awesome views over the "Picos de Europa" range and the Mountains of Palencia. The big snowfall hadn't started yet...
